Judd - Images From The Heart
I have travelled to many countries and I love them all. I love art of all kinds and I think everything we do in life is a creative process, but I can never reach perfection so I keep trying.
I try to creating a positive ambience in my art.
I have been painting since I was four years old and had my first exhibition in New Zealand at the age of eleven. In the last few years I have exhibited around the world. I had a vision of becoming an artist since I was five years old when I saw this most amazing artwork done by an older student at school, which inspired me.
Ever since I was young I have been focused on achieving my dreams. I have received training from some great artists. I have had a fantastic response from the world with my art.
I currently have a customs agent, who is very good at shipping my work, and can get my paintings to any location in the world.
On the process
When I paint I construct an outline and then proceed to create within the outlined space.
I use a layering process, with underlying layers sometimes showing through, and I enjoy vibrant colour
My paintings are sculptural in form, and painterly.
Changing the subject
Periodically I change the theme of my paintings.
When I was fifteen years old I painted people. I then started to do abstract work. I then combined abstract with figurative paintings. These works were in the Eros Conspiracy exhibition, Melbourne, Australia.
I then painted butterflies. These were the first things I remember painting when I was four years old. Now I have returned to painting figures but with elements of the butterfly. Who knows where I will go this time with my themes?
Background
I first started painting professionally at the age of 12. At the ages of 12, 13 and 14 I exhibited in the "Star Art Exhibition". At the age of 15 I achieved the highest mark for art in New Zealand schools for 1985 School Certificate.
I was then accepted to study at Elam Art, School in Auckland at the age of 15. Elam is one of the best Art Universities in New Zealand, however I declined as I wished to study other subjects as well as painting for the next few years, believing in a modern renaissance I studied other subjects at Auckland University.
I then went overseas and got accepted into one of Australias finest Art Schools "The Royal Melbourne Institute", where I studied for two years. I completed my final year of my Bachelor of Fine Art majoring in painting in USA. This year I have been asked to Exhibit in 20 countries around the world. New Zealand, Hong Kong (China), New York (USA), Cyprus, Barcelona (Spain), Geneva (Switzerland),Melbourne (Australia), Florence (Italy) to name a few
Most of my paintings are acrylic paint, as I find the medium is better than oil paints. Mainly because it is water soluble, and less destructive on the mind and body. Modern acrylics now have the qualities that can be found with some of the richest oils, but use less poisonous chemicals. I used oils for ten years before moving to acrylics.
