Nadia Wolinska
Motivation and inspiration
My motivation has been to seek infinity through painting. Paint is a living
medium where atoms build molecules and develop life, as a genetic development. The characteristic of
creative power is not immobilization, but movement and unceasing evolution. Its secret is held in
the beginning and the end, the life and the death, the growth and the dissolution, the evolution and
the involution and is to know how these polar opposites mutually condition
one another. By means of change and transformation, colors find their nature and their true destiny according to Harmony. In the
beginning was the light that became the rainbow - the source of all colors.
Painting is my quest in life. Realizing my understanding of the spiritual journey into painting, transforming thoughts into matter,
finding Reality. Reaching a constant evolution of consciousness by the
medium of painting, answering the Universal Question:
"Who Am I ?"
Form and method
The two-dimensional spiral is one of the most ancient symbols for eternity.
The double spiral shows the continuity between polarities and is the alternate evolutions and
involution. In my method this finds expression through the application of layers of pure colors, the 7 colors of
the rainbow, succeeding one on the other: from blue to red (evolution) then from red to blue
(involution). Thus each painting contains 14 layers. Colors work between them in harmony through
transparency. I no longer research colors. I work through intensity and sensitivity. This first series
of paintings follows the path of Creation and its evolution, from the first atom to the human kingdom then
from human being toward self-realization. The next series will be on the theme of the divine
and human intermingle in human being.
Medium
To find the medium I returned to the source, to a traditional painting
technique. My recipes are from the Middle ages (Van Eyck) : a mix-technique of tempera and oil on canvas.
I like to bring back the old knowledge of the Oil technique into a contemporary expression.
I am also searching for old Master secret as the use of Amber varnish use in the way of an Alchemist
philosophy. Tradition is not the past but the essence. A true technique is
the one that use his own understanding of life and applied it. It evolve with the time. this technique of the 7 colors is infinite.
Biography
Born in France in 1963, Nadia Wolinska education didn't follow a traditional
path. Involve in art at an early age. She study and practiced professionally different artistic
techniques (Dance Ballet, Mime, music). Constantly exploring new horizon to complete her art she
became involve in the stage management of theatrical productions at the same time pursuing her natural
talent in painting.
Whereas she felt limited in other artistic modalities, painting constantly
opened new horizons.
Already envisioning painting as a transparent layering of pure colors, she
had no techniques to fulfill her vision.
In 1986-88 she begin to work as a freelance illustrator. Drawing for
magazines, comic strips, fabric designer. She honed her craft in assisting a photo-realist painter, This
training led her to
commissioned work, (Photo-realist portrait, murals, set designer, decorator
museographic) (1987-93).
In Hong Kong, she stopped all commercial work and started to develop her own true
technique to fulfill her vision of transparencies (1993-97).
In London She realizes the first collection of paintings with this new
technique.
This collection has been exhibit in London, Paris, New York, and Italy. (1997-2001)
